Health startup strays from one-size-fits-all approach
- posted in the KLR Blog
An interactive health model recently raised $11.5 million in healthcare venture capital for its free technology that lets patients get their questions answered by physicians.
HealthTap received Series A funding from three different VC firms, and hopes to use the additional money to "accelerate growth, recruit top talent and engage more physicians and patients."
The service works by allowing anyone to ask health questions online or via a mobile app to top physicians in at least 100 specialties. Since launching its services two months ago, the company has added more than 6,000 leading doctors and 500 healthcare facilities.
"Patients and doctors alike have long been frustrated by the one-size-fits-all approach to healthcare and the limited opportunities for finding personally relevant health information online," said Rowan Chapman, a partner at one of the VC firms. "This round of funding is further evidence of the tremendous opportunity at the intersection of web-enabled social networks and more personalized, data-driven healthcare."
According to FierceHealthIT, physician replies can be tailored to individual patients based on how much information they give about their condition, and appointments can be made via the service if the information received is acceptable.
One of the highest-ranked Boston accounting firms, KLR boasts 160 team members across the East Coast. Because of its expansive reach, employees are able to specialize in support for healthcare-based companies, including practice management consulting, corporate compliance assistance and business valuation services.
